The Active Joe
The Active Joe was founded in 2008 with the mission of providing running outreach to the local community. The organization currently produces 5 running events and focuses on providing fun, friendly, and affordable opportunities for people to get active! Between road and trail race events, The Active Joe catered to creating a wonderful racing experience for almost 2,000 participants in 2022.
The Active Joe produces 3 trail events yearly, including a 100 mile running event, the Dinosaur Valley Endurance Run 100 Mile, 100K, 50K, 25K, and 5 Mile each fall. The Active Joe produced the first organized 100-mile trail race in North Texas. The company also has 2 road race event days annually at the New Years Double, a race that was first started in 2011 and has participation by runners and walkers from all over the United States and many from all over the world too because of its reputation for beautiful and cool race medals. Over 10,000 people have participated in New Years Double!
All events are located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. Owner and Founder Libby Jones has been an active member of the leadership of the Dallas-Fort Worth running community for many years and has completed many races herself, including 15 ultramarathons, over 20 marathons, and many more half marathons. Jones has never taken a salary from the company and does this all out of a passion for the sport and the active community. Instead, in the last 10 years, the company has given approximately $300,000 to charitable organizations.
The Active Joe isn't about producing massive events or a dozen events per year or about maximizing profits. It's about running outreach to provide well-organized activities with a personal touch, affordable price points, and quality entrant and finisher items!
There are 8 driving principles about how the company and our races are operated. Read here about how each principle shows up in what we do.
